Newburgh, NY – 1st Lieutenant Tommy J. Garcia of the 105th Airlift Wing, was selected as the FY20 Air National Guard Human Resource Advisor (HRA) of the year award winner.
HRAs play a vital role in accomplishing the Chief of the National Guard Bureau’s intent to maintain a ready, resilient force by recruiting, retaining, and promoting talented, capable, high performing citizen Soldiers and Airmen from every racial, ethnic, and gender group, thus helping ensure that our force reflects the diversity of the communities we serve.
“I believe this award is a reflection of teamwork,” said Garcia. “We have a great team here at the 105th and one of the most diverse and inclusive wings in all of the Air National Guard.”
This award recognizes the HRA who most consistently added great value to the HRA program, their Wing, and to the deliberate development of the Airmen they represent.
“Putting God first and working as a team to build up Airmen is what has allowed me to achieve success,” said Garcia.
He was an exceptional performer and genuine leader, facilitating unconscious bias training to 250 members while mentoring events with 7 Airmen and 24 Student Flight members. He was also a lead coordinator and chaired 14 enlisted council meetings. These are just a few of his many accomplishments.
Garcia is currently serving as a Chaplain at the 105th Airlift Wing and is continuing to put his faith in God to help him build up Airman to reach their potential and support the mission.
